Fed: News of Ansett safety problems moves overseas
The grounding of Ansett's 767 fleet made news overseas, with international television
network CNN reporting the Australian airline could face total closure.
The CNN website quoted the Civil Aviation Safety Authority as saying there had been
repeated failures to properly maintain the aircraft.
Opposition transport spokesman MARTIN FERGUSON says Australia is now a laughing stock
internationally.
But CASA spokesman PETER GIBSON says the problems will not have a negative impact on
Australia's international air safety reputation.
CASA grounded Ansett's fleet of 10 Boeing 767s indefinitely last night, after news
one 767 made eight flights last weekend without emergency slides in place.
