Vic: Campaign worker denies claim of by election offer

Two Victorian ALP campaign workers have denied claims they offered cash for an independent
candidate's preferences in last year's crucial Frankston East supplementary election.

Former Frankston mayor DAVID DAWN, who won only 58 votes, has told the Herald-Sun newspaper
he was approached twice and offered money to direct his preferences to Labor.

He was one of 11 independents who contested the Frankston East supplementary election
on October 16, which was won by Labor's MATT VINEY, sealing government for Labor.

MARK CONROY, the current mayor of Frankston and one of the accused campaign workers,
has told ABC radio he didn't approach Mr DAWN.

Mr CONROY says he wasn't even on speaking terms with Mr DAWN, and says everyone knew
Mr DAWN was giving preference to the Liberals.

The other campaign worker named, MICHAEL QUAYLE, has also denied the accusation.
