Vic: 12-year-old boy mourns murdered mother
Twelve-year-old MARTIN POCHOPIEN has bid farewell to his young mother ANETKA, who was
gunned down in her car at her Melbourne home early last Wednesday.
Sitting quietly beside his father PETER in the front row of the church in suburban
Richmond, the youngster listened as his mother was farewelled in her native language,
Polish, at St Ignatius Catholic Church.
The service, attended by more than 300 people, was conducted entirely in Polish except
for eulogies from MARTIN and a family friend, SYLVIA, who described Mrs POCHOPIEN as a
loving, caring and unique person.
Mrs POCHOPIEN, who was 33, was shot as she sat in her car outside her home in Carramar
Street, an hour after finishing nightshift at a nearby factory.
Mrs POCHOPIEN, who moved to Australia with her husband a decade ago, will be buried
in her hometown of Krakow, Poland, within the next seven days.
