FED:Swan wants wider investment in corp bonds

Treasurer WAYNE SWAN wants to open up Australia's corporate bond market to mum and
dad investors, although concedes there will no quick fix.

The treasurer has released a discussion paper today that aims to reduce regulatory
burdens faced by Australian corporations seeking to raise capital through bond issues.

It also looks at allowing retail investors to take a share.

In a statement, Mr SWAN says creating a large and liquid corporate bond market is a
long-term project with no quick fixes, but says the government is committed to work with
the industry to encourage the development of this important market.

Submissions on the discussion paper are due by February 10, next year.
